Nature Journaling In Your Backyard

Our second program on Nature Journaling picks up where our first left off. Join us for a hands-on period of journaling off our observations around the library grounds. Get ideas from our instructor on organizing your pages, including memoranda and more!
Participants will receive their complimentary journals and marking pencils at this session.
Celebrate the flavors and fun of fall with Purdue Extension! Kids will get hands-on with seasonal activities that are both educational and delicious. Explore the inside of a pumpkin as you dissect it, then roast the seeds to create a tasty and nutritious snack you can enjoy right away.
Get up close and personal with some friendly farm animals, learning about their care, habits, and the important roles they play on a farm. Whether you’re curious about nature, love animals, or just want a fun fall afternoon, this program has something for everyone.
It’s a perfect way to celebrate the fall season!
Join us for an extra-special Babytime! Caretakers will enjoy information on baby-led feeding followed by a demonstration of how to make Autumn Oatmeal. In the meantime, babies and toddlers will enjoy playing with age appropriate sensory toys.
The grand finale? Tasting time!

Nature journaling is a powerful way to preserve memories and the environment. Capture your impressions – but leave no trace.
Local nature journalist Joanna Erbaugh will lead an introductory session on Nature Journaling, sharing her favorite tips, tricks, and resources for this endlessly adaptable practice.
Come learn how to make the maximum impact on your recollections while leaving a minimum impact on your surroundings!
Debut author Audri Svay will be leading a poetry writing workshop using examples from her recently published book of poetry Between You and Me.
Described as evoking both the spiritual and the deeply human, Between You and Me is an intimate conversation about the distance between people where Svay draws on her experiences as a poet, professor, and pastor to challenge ideas of acceptance, question societal assumptions, and explore intersections of identity.
During this workshop, she will offer insight into her writing process as well as guide participants in creating their own works of poetry. The workshop will include poetry readings, discussion on writing about personal experience in poetic ways, and time for participants to write and share their writing with others if they wish. There will be copies of the book available for purchase and an opportunity to have them signed at the conclusion of the workshop. No prior writing experience is required to attend!
Audri Svay works as the professional writing consultant for the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, IN where she teaches writing courses as an adjunct English professor. Svay has written for Messenger Magazine (2023), and Brethren Life and Thought (2024), and is the author of the poetry book Between You and Me, published through Brethren Press in June 2025. She has been featured several years as theopoet-in-residence at the local Sing Me Home Festival. Svay is currently working on her PhD in Literature and Criticism through Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was recently awarded Manchester’s University’s “2024 Young Alumni of the Year.”
